For parents, finding the relevant school term dates for their children can be a challenge since school holidays vary between the different countries in the UK and between the local authorities in different regions. 

However, Northern Ireland school holidays and term dates are fairly straightforward and uncomplicated as they’re largely the same across the board. Unlike schools in Scotland which operate with different term dates depending on the council area, schools in Northern Ireland all have the same term dates and holidays – which fortunately makes things easier for parents!

The term dates below are based on an assumption of a ‘normal’ school year in Northern Ireland. If new government advice should impact these dates – for example in relation to updated Covid-19 guidelines – schools will be notified of any changes as soon as possible.

 *Schools in Northern Ireland also take Monday 1 May as ‘Early May Bank Holiday’.

In addition to the holidays outlined above, individual schools in Northern Ireland may take a number of staff training and school development days during the school year. On these days, pupils don’t have to attend school. Since these additional days off are at the discretion of each school, the dates are likely to differ from school to school – so it’s best to be on the lookout for any school communication regarding upcoming training or development days at your child’s school.
