Chemistry is an extremely hard subject to master. It can be really hard to grasp concepts such as organic and inorganic Chemistry because of how ‘foreign’ they may seem. Most of the time, this happens because your Chemistry fundamentals aren’t strong enough. When studied early on, however, Chemistry can end up becoming your favourite subject!
Why learn Chemistry? Different branches of Chemistry like physical and organic Chemistry promote logical and analytical thinking. Learning these subjects at an early age can help sharpen your reasoning and visualisation skills. But how exactly can you develop your own avid interest in learning about Chemistry? Let’s find out!
How do I learn Chemistry?
The key is to use resources that are visual, and engaging and to do real-life experiments. Performing simple experiments at home can help you develop your interest in Chemistry. For example, baking bread is a simple but effective way to learn about the Chemistry behind fermentation.
Other kitchen experiments involving simple kitchen items like salt and ice can be used to learn about the complex concepts of freezing point and chemical reactions (salt lowers the freezing point of ice because of dilution laws!).
These are just some of the examples of experiments that GoStudent’s world class tutors will use to teach Chemistry. Our tutors will go beyond the confines of the textbook to ensure Chemistry is easier than ever before. We’d love for you to reimagine your education and get excited about learning Chemistry. How to learn Chemistry easily?
The primary step in learning Chemistry is familiarising yourself with the subject’s vocabulary. Without knowing what certain key words mean, no amount of simplification or explanation will be enough. Relevant vocabulary for a subject like Chemistry starts with the very basics, like the different forms of matter: liquid, solid, and gas.
Go on a walk or explore your home and try to find out what the things around you are made of. When studying Chemistry in an academic light, you’ll need to start learning about the components of matter and how it is made up of tiny building blocks called atoms. Building things with Lego is a great way to explore this!
Next, it’s time to move to more complex concepts. Label different lego pieces as elements, compounds and mixtures so that they’re easier to work with. You could use lego of the same colour to build an element, which will help you visualise how elements are substances made up of a single type of atom.
To learn about compounds, use different coloured lego to indicate how compounds are made up of different types of elements. A mixture can be seen as a material that is made up of different types of compounds that aren’t chemically combined, i.e. by placing the lego beside each other instead of connecting them to build something.
Why learn Chemistry?
Chemistry is a vast and fascinating subject that can help your overall development. Subsections like physical Chemistry often employ other useful techniques and subjects like algebra and arithmetic to predict chemical reactions. Other sections like organic and inorganic Chemistry work according to their own mathematics and even require you to imagine compounds and their combinations in 3D!
Learning the fundamentals of these subjects helps you to sharpen your logical, analytical, and visual thinking. It will also give you the opportunity to get familiar with broad scientific concepts from a young age.
At GoStudent, our expert tutors offer interactive Chemistry classes. Complete with fun quizzes and engaging audio-visual lectures, our tuition is tailored to fit your learning level and style. So what are you waiting for? Ask a parent to book a free trial now!
