How to apply interactive learning methods to develop your child's key competencies

Everything you need to know about interactive learning for children and teenagers

Remember how it was when you were in school and had to bear boring lessons? How were you supposed to just sit at your desk and copy text and figures from the chalkboard? It did not really help to stay motivated. 🤯

Thankfully, the education system has undergone various changes since then. Nowadays, students embrace new knowledge and skills in technology-driven and dynamic ways. More and more schools teach their students in an inspirational environment with interactive learning activities. 🤸

The results are astonishing. And the best thing is, you can use interactive learning methods at home. Maybe you are already doing it? Scroll down to get the skinny on interactive learning and its benefits. ⬇️

What is interactive learning?

Interactive learning means that the student is acquiring new skills and knowledge through activities that include interaction. It may be:

🤼 group presentations

🗣️ discussion tables

💻 the use of new technologies

🎭 or role-playing.

The beauty of interactive learning is the real-world, hands-on experience, where students develop intrinsic motivation toward the learning topics. 💪🔥

Compared to the passive learning method, memorizing and copying, interactive learning involves various components such as sports activities, reading, cultural trips, project days, arts and play. The students act as co-creators of the lessons and can navigate the way they want to learn. ✌️👦👧

Parents also want to participate in their kids' informal education and make use of interactive learning. You can integrate interactive activities from school and adapt them to your and your child's daily routine. 💡

Why should you use interactive learning?

As an academic advisor and volunteer in educational NGOs, I know that interactive learning methods were the only thing to keep the attention and engagement of the students. 💯

✔️ The main reason is the fun component. Students get the stage to express themselves in a safe environment. Moreover, they are listened to and taken seriously.

✔️ A nice side effect of these factors is the development of valuable hard and soft skills. Interactive learning sharpens the students’ analytical skills, teaches them to think critically, and forges creativity and imagination. Your child will perceive the world with an open and flexible mind. Hence, he will make well-informed decisions instead of simply repeating what he memorized in the lesson or at home.

✔️ Last but not least, interactive learning teaches students how to communicate with peers and their environment effectively. A skill that shapes the future of our work system as more and more workplaces become remote, team-based environments.

How can you integrate interactive learning at home?

❗❗❗🗣️ As the interactive learning approach is grounded in interaction, our main advice to you is: Talk to your child.

Make a real conversation by raising your offspring’s curiosity, but don’t forget to listen. 👂

🔸 Instead of asking “How was school?”, make your question intriguing and fun. Use for example “How do you feel after today’s school day? Name 3 feelings that come to your mind in less than 30 seconds”. Do you see the difference? Whereas the first case promises a dull “fine” as an answer, the second question creates an emotional wow-effect and initiates a thinking process.

You can also use various interactive learning games and activities at home with your child, especially in the summertime. Stay tuned and watch out for the new articles we publish about different interactive learning activities. 🧘🧩
